Our calculators give estimates, not medical advice.

The calculators and articles on Home Gym Canada are for general information. They are not medical, nutrition or training advice, and they do not replace a consultation with your doctor, a registered dietitian or another qualified health professional.

Estimates for healthy adults

Every formula on this site predicts the average of the people it was studied on. Your real needs can sit well above or below the result. The formulas were built for healthy adults; they are not meant for children or teenagers, and they may not apply to you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, an elite athlete, or living with a medical condition.

Talk to a professional first if

  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or under 18;
  • you live with a condition such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease or an eating disorder, or have had one;
  • you take medication that affects appetite, weight, blood sugar or blood pressure;
  • you plan a large change in what you eat, or a new and intense training program.

Lifting safely

The one rep max calculator estimates a maximum from a lighter set so you do not have to test it. If you lift heavy, use proper technique, a spotter or safety bars, and stop if you feel pain.

No guarantee

We check our sources and our code, but we cannot guarantee that every number is right for you or free of error. You use the results at your own risk. If you think a number is wrong, tell us.
